Dimple Kapadia, 68, ruled the silver screen for decades not just with her acting chops but also her beauty. Her thick, shiny hair continues to be the envy of many. In an interview to a fashion magazine, she gave away much of her hair care secrets, which included a hair pack made of natural ingredients and a diet rich in proteins.
The celebrated actress revealed in the interview how her “habit of oiling” since childhood has paid off and resulted in glossy hair. She said, “I oil my hair overnight, then get a head massage with a homemade hair pack, which is a mixture of eggs (5 whites and a whole egg) and a banana. I leave it on for 10–30 minutes and then wash it through with lukewarm water.”
Dimple added that it was a childhood ritual to get her hair oiled, as she had very “dry, thick, and coarse hair.” And professional styling could have made it much worse had she not been particular about oiling her hair.
The actress went on to share her secret oil recipe — “a concoction of almond and sandalwood as a base, with geranium, rosemary, and lavender essential oils.” She intends to pass it down to her grandchildren, advising that it is better to oil your hair than colour it. She also recommended onion juice but added that onion extract oils are a better and safer option now.
Dimple didn’t hesitate to share her diet and emphasised consuming protein-rich foods for healthy hair growth and lustrous locks. She shared that she grew up eating a lot of fish, as her family lived in a coastal area — and it helped her hair tremendously. She suggested how balanced meals including seeds and nuts could do wonders for your hair, providing all the vital nutrients for strong and healthy hair.
