Rakhi 2025 Style Guide: Style festive looks with fresh colours, fusion fashion, and statement accessories

This year, Raksha Bandhan styling is all about pushing the envelope with colour combinations, leaning into fusion wear, and choosing the right accessories to stand out while staying rooted

The festival of Rakhi is around the corner, and more than a sibling celebration, it is style moment in its own. With the festive season kicking off, this weekend is the perfect excuse to dress up, get creative with your wardrobe, and strike a balance between culture, and contemporary style with innovative looks.

Go for unexpected colour combos:

While Indian hues and jewelled tones like red, yellow, and green will always have their place, but this season, it’s the offbeat palettes that are turning heads. Opt for shades of burnt orange with powder blue, deep plum with pistachio green, or soft lilac paired with ivory. Dusky rose and mint is another sophisticated duo for day celebrations. If you're dressing for an evening get-together, metallics like antique gold, copper, and gunmetal grey worn with pastel undertones create a striking contrast that feels modern yet festive.

For men, instead of classic white kurtas try earthy tones like sage, rust, or steel blue. Pair them with printed or textured Nehru jackets, or even go for contrast piping and asymmetrical collars for a more updated look.

Fusion Clothing:

The rise of Indo-western fashion means you don’t need to stick to traditional silhouettes. For women, pre-stitched sari drapes with crop tops, high-low kurtas with dhoti pants, or layered jackets over lehengas are stylish yet practical choices. Co-ord sets in handwoven fabrics with embroidered motifs are also a chic, low-effort way to dress up. If you’re staying home for a quiet celebration, cotton angrakhas or kaftan-style kurtas in festive prints can be comfortable yet Insta-worthy.

Men can pair kurta shirts with denim or printed trousers, or go with short bandhgalas layered over T-shirts for an easy fusion statement. The idea is to mix structure with flow, ethnic with global, and classics with edgy pieces to reflect your personality.

Statement Accessories:

Accessories can make or break your Rakhi outfit, so many sure that you invest in a cool statement jewellery to make an everlasting impact. Chunky oxidised jewellery, colourful bangles, or contemporary ear cuffs add that extra flair to simpler outfits. This year, expect to see a lot of handmade jewellery in terracotta, jute, resin, and upcycled fabrics, especially from homegrown brands championing artisanal crafts. Footwear is getting playful too and kolhapuris in neon shades, juttis with sequins, or even ethnic-printed sneakers will be a good idea to include in your wardrobe. Hair accessories like embellished hairbands or fresh flowers tucked into messy buns also add a refreshing festive touch. Light makeup with a dewy finish, festive nails, and fresh florals (like gajras or floral rings) add a touch of old-school charm.

For men, brooches, hand-embroidered pocket squares, and mojaris in suede or printed fabrics are easy ways to stand out. Don’t shy away from experimenting with layered bracelets or handcrafted buttons on your kurta for added personality. Spruce up with a clean shave or beard grooming and a splash of traditional attar or perfume.
