Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar’s advice to girls: Don’t date a guy who cannot cook dal chawal

Health expert Rujuta Diwekar took to her Instagram account and shared a video in which she offered unusual advice to young girls. She warned them not to marry a guy who cannot cook something as basic as dal chawal. She went on to explain that no load sharing in the kitchen leads to load shedding.

Celebrity nutritionist Rujuta Diwekar always has gems to drop when it comes to giving health advice to women. Her new video on Instagram is no different. This time, she addressed young girls, asking them not to date a guy who lacks basic culinary skills.

Rujuta Diwekar’s unusual dating advice

At the book launch of The Common Sense Diet, Rujuta didn’t mince words while talking to the audience. “I have dating advice for girls. If you find a guy who cannot make dal and rice, you shouldn’t even date him, forget about marrying him.”

This caused laughter, but she explained further, “If there is no load sharing in the kitchen, then there is load shedding. We all know what happens in load shedding: power cuts. She implied that if partners don’t share kitchen work equally, it has adverse health consequences.

Load shedding in the kitchen

Detailing the concept of load shedding that usually happens in summers in Maharashtra, where electricity goes off for 4–6 hours, Rujuta shared that it takes on a different meaning in the kitchen.


She said, “What happens in load shedding in the kitchen? People order from outside. If there is no load sharing, then there will be load shedding. And the latter will lead to weight gain. So the only way to stay lean is to cook often, eat often, and not have barriers of gender when it comes to cooking and eating a good meal.”

Encouraging the concept of gender-neutral kitchens

Rujuta has long encouraged the concept of a gender-neutral kitchen where both partners share the responsibility of cooking meals at home. In her caption, she reiterated, “Rooting for gender-neutral kitchens because abs are made in the kitchen and not in the gym.”

While the celebrity nutritionist is all for healthy eating, she often stresses the importance of eating local, seasonal foods for nutritional benefits. Enjoying festive desserts is also something she asks people not to refrain from.

Recently, she posted a picture of modaks and wrote, “Modaks are already healthy. They don’t get healthier because you replace jaggery with stevia, rice flour with ragi, or mixed coconut with cocoa chips & moringa. They only get pricier (and yucky). Janhit mein jaari hai (Issued in public interest).”
