A notable real estate deal has been completed at the former site of Dilip Kumar’s iconic bungalow in Bandra, Mumbai. A luxurious triplex apartment, covering 9,527.21 square feet, has been sold for an impressive Rs 155 crore. Blackrock facilitated the sale, with Apco Infratech Private Limited emerging as the buyer.
Dilip Kumar, the legendary Bollywood actor, passed away at the age of 98 on July 7, 2021, after a prolonged illness. In 1953, he bought the Bandra West property from Mohammad Latif for Rs 1.4 lakhs and resided there for fifty years. This bungalow, steeped in history, was involved in legal disputes for several years.
Kumar’s family accused a real estate firm of forging documents to seize the property. After a lengthy court battle, Saira Banu, Dilip Kumar’s wife, regained possession of the keys in 2017. Now, all legal issues have been resolved, and the property is clear of disputes.
According to SquareFeatIndia.com, the triplex spans the 9th, 10th, and 11th floors of the building. The per square foot rate is approximately Rs 1.62 lakh, and the stamp duty paid for the apartment’s registration was Rs 9.30 crore.
Last year, the Ashar Group, a notable real estate developer, reached an agreement with Dilip Kumar’s family to develop a luxury residential project on the Pali Hill plot, previously the location of the celebrated actor's bungalow.
Alongside the residential development, a museum dedicated to Dilip Kumar’s life and achievements will be established. This museum, which will showcase the actor’s legacy, will be located on the ground floor of the tower and will have a separate entrance for easy visitor access. This initiative aims to honor Dilip Kumar’s immense contributions to Indian cinema while preserving his memory for future generations.
The sale of the triplex and the development of both the residential project and the museum mark a new chapter for this historic site, blending modern luxury with a tribute to a Bollywood legend.
