The industry is abuzz with excitement about the forthcoming Malayalam crime drama Thudarum, reuniting the legendary Mohanlal with Shobana. Advance bookings for the film opened today (April 10, 2025) at 10 AM across theatres in Kerala, ahead of its grand theatrical release on April 25, 2025, after an official statement was released yesterday.

Thudarum is helmed by Tharun Moorthy and promises a gripping tale of layered crime and interpersonal drama. It is a story of Shanmugham (Mohanlal) and Lalitha (Shobana). The plot remains largely under wraps, but the film is poised to explore deep emotion, human conflict, and societal tension, making for an overarching cinematic experience.

The film has a strong supporting cast, with Farhaan Faasil, Maniyanpilla Raju, Binu Pappu, Irshad Ali, Aarsha Chandini Baiju, Thomas Mathew, Krishna Praba, Prakash Varma and Aravind. Tharun Moorthy and K.R. Sunil have co-written the screenplay, and have set themselves to bring grounded storytelling to the centre stage.

The film was produced by M. Renjith under Rejaputhra Visual Media and was filmed over 99 days, between April and November 2024.

It assembles a richly experienced technical crew, including cinematographer Shaji Kumar and editors Shafeeque V.B. and Nishadh Yusuf. Jakes Bejoy has scored music for the film including the background score while Vishnu Govind has done the audiography and Gokul Das has done the production design. The look of the film is also sculpted by the makeup artist Pattanam Rasheed and the costume designer Sameera Saneesh.

Avantika Renjith was the executive producer of the project, while Dixon Poduthas was responsible for production control, Binu Pappu played both actor and co-director and Prakash K. Madhu was the chief associate director.

The news that Thudarum will also have its first show at 10:00 am on April 25, as revealed by the release of a poster recently, adds to the excitement. Thudarum is already capturing the audience of Malayalam cinema even before its release, as Mohanlal and Shobana will be seen together on screen again and this is one of the most controlled discussions on the upcoming release of the year.
