Veteran actress Mallika Sukumaran, mother of actor-filmmaker Prithviraj Sukumaran, has strongly condemned the criticism directed at her son amid the L2: Empuraan controversy. She accused certain individuals of attempting to make Prithviraj a "scapegoat" in the situation.
Additionally, she dismissed speculations suggesting that superstar Mohanlal was unaware of certain scenes in the film that have sparked widespread debate. Mallika firmly rejected these theories, asserting that such claims were baseless.
She addressed the backlash against her son Prithviraj by posting a detailed post on Facebook. She wrote in Malayalam in the post, "Some people have deliberately spread the idea that Prithviraj cheated Mohanlal and the producers, including Antony Perumbavoor, by taking up Empuran, and some media outlets have now taken it up. Knowing what happened behind the scenes of this film, I am extremely hurt that some people are trying to isolate Prithviraj."
She expressed her disappointment, stating that some individuals were unfairly trying to make her son a scapegoat without the knowledge of Mohanlal or the producers. She emphasized that Prithviraj had never deceived anyone involved in any film, including this one.
"They all read the script together. They all saw the scenes being shot together and everyone said okay. And when everything is done and the movie is released, how can Prithviraj alone be responsible for it?" she continued in the post.
Mallika asserted that every scene in the film was known to both Mohanlal and Antony Perumbavoor, dismissing claims to the contrary. She emphasized that any issues or controversies surrounding the movie were a shared responsibility and not solely Prithviraj's burden.
For those unfamiliar, L2: Empuraan, directed by Prthiviraj nd starring Mohanlal as lead actor, grabbed headlines recently after its release on March 27 due to certain scenes in the film that were based on the 2002 Gujarat Riots.
Producer Gokulam Gopalan revealed that the production team had decided on 17 cuts in the film, with the revised version set to hit theaters next week. Following this, Mohanlal issued an apology, expressing regret for any distress caused to his fans and the audience.
