Prime Video cancels fantasy series The Wheel of Time after 3 seasons

The Wheel of Time will not return for a new season

Rosamund Pike and Barney Harris starrer Prime Video's The Wheel of Time fans were recently left disappointed after the markets cancelled the fantasy drama series after three seasons.

According to Deadline, the fantasy epic was cancelled because of the dwindling viewership. The announcement came after the finale episode of Season 3 premiered on April 17.

The sources informed the outlet that despite discussions with Sony TV, Season 3's performance didn't match the show's high production costs, leading Prime Video to decide against renewing it for another season.

The series notably dropped out of Nielsen's Top 10 Originals chart after Season 3's first week. Despite this, The Wheel of Time ranked #1 on Prime Video in multiple countries during its latest season.

The Wheel Of Time premiered in 2021 on Prime Video and instantly became most most-watched series premiere of the year. The eight-episode series also bagged the status of the platform’s top 5 series launches of all time.

However, The Wheel Of Time Season 2 was released in 2023, followed by the third and final season, which was released in March.

Based on Robert Jordan’s bestselling fantasy book series of the same name, the series follows a world where magic exists but can only be wielded by certain individuals. The novel notably consisted of 14 main and one prequel parts.

The series revolves around Moiraine Damodred, played by Rosamund Pike, a member of the Aes Sedai, who embarks on a journey with five young villagers—one of whom is prophesied to be the Dragon Reborn, a figure destined to either save or destroy the world.
