Mrs fame Kanwaljit Singh shares dark-humoured post about flying with Air India: 'Maine Will bana di hai'

Veteran actor Kanwaljit Singh’s dry-humoured Instagram post about flying Air India raised eyebrows amidst national grief. The timing followed the tragic crash of AI171 in Ahmedabad, making his quip particularly striking.

In a recent dry-witted Instagram update from an airport lounge, veteran actor Kanwaljit Singh made a subtle but direct comment about his Air India trip.

Delivered with a hint of dark humour, the post follows the nation's mourning following the tragic Air India incident.

In a short video filmed at the lounge, Kanwaljit quipped, “Off to Colombo. Will bana di hai (I have prepared my will). See you in Colombo. Flying Air India!” While clearly intended as tongue-in-cheek, the timing of the comment struck a chord with many, given the sombre backdrop of recent events.

A few days prior, Air India flight AI171, a Boeing 787 Dreamliner headed for London, tragically crashed just after takeoff into a medical college dorm in Meghaninagar, Ahmedabad.

241 people were killed in the horrifying incident, leaving only one survivor, Vishwash Kumar Ramesh, who was sitting in 11A and amazingly managed to escape with only minor injuries.

In contrast to Kanwaljit Singh's light-hearted jab, several celebrities have voiced their support for Air India during this difficult time, standing in solidarity with the airline and its crew.

Actress Raveena Tandon posted a heartfelt message on Instagram, stating, “New Beginnings to rise and fly again against all odds The Silent passengers and crew bonding with unspoken condolences and subtle confidence A wound that will never heal. Godspeed always @airindia. Fearless and a will to overcome and be strong again.”

Comedian Vir Das also weighed in, using his platform on X (formerly Twitter) to extend his sympathies: “It’s a tragic day for so many families. And all our thoughts and prayers are with them. I’ve flown Air India all my life I know them to be the best crew in the sky.”

Kanwaljit Singh, who last appeared with Sanya Malhotra in the critically acclaimed social drama Mrs., is still well-known for his unabashed humour. Nonetheless, the online community is still split on whether humour is appropriate during a time of national grief in the wake of such a tragic incident.
