The 2024 Tony Awards took place on Sunday night at the David H. Koch Theater, part of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts in New York City. Ariana DeBose, an acclaimed Oscar and Tony award winner, hosted the ceremony for the third time.
The standout production of the night was "Stereophonic," directed by Daniel Aukin. This play, set in the 1970s and revolving around a fictional band, won five Tony Awards, including best direction and best play. Another notable winner was "The Outsiders," a musical adaptation of S.E. Hinton’s novel co-produced by Angelina Jolie, which garnered four awards. "Merrily We Roll Along," featuring Daniel Radcliffe and Jonathan Groff, both of whom received their first Tony Awards, also secured four wins.
The evening was filled with electrifying performances, including acts by Radcliffe, Groff, and Lindsay Mendez with the cast of "Merrily We Roll Along." Other memorable performances included The Who’s Pete Townshend with the cast of "The Who’s Tommy," Keys and Jay-Z with the cast of "Hell’s Kitchen," and Eddie Redmayne with the cast of "Cabaret at the Kit Kat Club."
In addition to Radcliffe and Groff, the awards recognized several first-time winners: Sarah Paulson for "Appropriate," Jeremy Strong for "An Enemy of the State," and Kecia Lewis for the Alicia Keys-produced musical "Hell’s Kitchen."
