Reality television star Kim Kardashian was robbed in 2016 during Paris Fashion Week. The armed robbers allegedly tied Kim up in a luxury residence and stole millions of dollars’ worth of jewellery. The trial of the case is yet to begin, however, one prime suspect is dead.
Twelve people were accused of the robbery and were expected to face trial. However, one accused passed away just before the trial, and another one was unable to participate because of health concerns.
Now, ten defendants face charges of robbery, kidnapping, and other crimes. However, the officials have yet to reveal the identity of the deceased suspect.
According to AP, the officials have assured that the trial will investigate all aspects of the robbery, including planning, execution, and attempted resale of stolen jewellery, despite the absence of some defendants.
Meanwhile, the five defendants, who are now famously dubbed as “grandpa robbers” due to their age, allegedly stole jewellery worth 6 million dollars. They are also accused of stealing Kim Kardashian’s infamous engagement ring from Kanye West. The officials managed to recover only one item, a diamond cross pendant.
However, the remaining six, including the one suspect who has passed away, are charged as accessories to the crime. If found guilty, the defendants could receive long prison sentences. The jury and magistrates will review evidence over several weeks before delivering a verdict.
However, Kim Kardashian has previously described the traumatic robbery as fearing for her life. She plans to testify in person on May 13. The trial is scheduled to run through May 23.
