Kajol recently shared a behind-the-scenes memory from the set of the 1993 thriller Baazigar that left her in uncontrollable laughter. While the film is known for its intense drama and iconic performances, one scene involving co-star Shilpa Shetty ended up becoming unintentionally hilarious for Kajol.
Speaking with The Lallantop, Kajol recalled a particular emotional sequence where Shilpa Shetty had to play a dead body. But instead of feeling the weight of the moment, Kajol got distracted—by Shilpa’s perfectly polished toenails. “Bechari Shilpa ke saath huya. It was the dead body sequence, and for some reason, I just couldn’t stop laughing at her feet,” Kajol said, trying to contain her amusement even now. “I looked at them and thought, ‘Who applies this much nail polish while dying?’ I was laughing uncontrollably just looking at her feet.”
Despite the serious tone required for the scene, Kajol found herself unable to stay in character. “I kept laughing, ‘Oh my god this is so funny, Shilpa’s feet and nail polish’. Aur Abbas bhai said, ‘Baby no, listen, you have to give shot right now and cry.’ But I couldn’t control myself,” she added.
Eventually, director Abbas (from the Abbas-Mustan duo) had to intervene more sternly to get Kajol back on track. “Toh Abbas bhai ne fir daanta mujhe uss time ki ‘Stop it. Imagine if it was your real sister, then would you be laughing like this?’ Toh ekdum flip hogaya mera fir mood,” Kajol explained. The emotional trigger helped her shift her mindset and deliver the shot as required, but the memory clearly left a lasting impression.
The anecdote gives fans a lighthearted glimpse into the making of Baazigar, a film that played a crucial role in establishing Kajol and Shah Rukh Khan as leading stars.

About Baazigar
Directed by Abbas-Mustan, Baazigar was a game-changer in Bollywood. Released in 1993, it featured Shah Rukh Khan in one of his earliest and most iconic anti-hero roles, opposite Kajol. The film was loosely based on the Hollywood film A Kiss Before Dying and revolved around a vengeful young man stopping at nothing to get justice for his family. Its suspenseful narrative, chart-topping songs, and bold storytelling turned it into a blockbuster and cemented its place in Bollywood history.
On the Work Front
Kajol will next be seen in Sarzameen, directed by Kayoze Irani and produced by Karan Johar. The film also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan, and is set to premiere on Jio Hotstar on July 25.
