Billionaire industrialist Sunjay Kapur, widely known in the public eye as actress Karisma Kapoor’s ex-husband, passed away recently, sending shockwaves through both the business community and Bollywood. Following the news of his untimely demise, speculation has grown over the future of his vast fortune and his leadership role at Sona Comstar.
According to Bloomberg, Sunjay assumed leadership of Sona Comstar in 2015 following the death of his father, renowned businessman Dr. Surinder Kapur. The business expanded significantly under his direction, reaching a market valuation of more than Rs 10,300 crore and solidifying its position in the auto parts sector.
Sunjay Kapur's personal life frequently made headlines over the years. He was married to actress Karisma Kapoor from 2003 to 2016, and the two share two children — Samaira, now 20, and Kiaan, 14. Prior to that, he was married to fashion designer Nandita Mahtani between 1996 and 2000. Later, he tied the knot with Priya Sachdev, and the couple has a 6-year-old son named Azarias.
None of Sunjay Kapur's children are currently expected to hold executive positions in his business. According to a report by India Today, his sisters are expected to assume important management roles. However, Sona Comstar hasn't yet released an official statement verifying these developments.
Following Sunjay Kapur’s demise, Sona Comstar issued an official statement to reassure investors and business partners about continued stability. "His vision, values, and dedication to excellence has left a lasting legacy for the company. We assure our customers, business partners, employees, and shareholders that our operations and prospects remain unchanged as we honour his legacy."
According to Forbes, Sunjay Kapur had accumulated a personal net worth of $1.2 billion (roughly Rs 10,300 crore) at the time of his passing. According to reports, his wealth reached a peak of $1.6 billion (roughly Rs 3,000 crore) in 2022 and 2024. The Hindustan Times reports that his wife, Priya Sachdev, will now be in charge of running his estate.

Sources, however, claim that Sunjay had carefully budgeted for each of his children. He had previously given bonds totalling Rs 14 crore to his two children with Karisma Kapoor, Samaira and Kiaan. Furthermore, it is said that each of them is entitled to a monthly salary of Rs 10 lakh.
As of now, the specifics of the inheritance have not yet been formally confirmed, even though these reports emphasise Sunjay's desire to ensure his children's financial future.
