Yuva Rajkumar’s much-anticipated action drama Ekka finally hit cinemas on 18 July, and early reports suggest the film has opened on a high note.

According to industry tracker Sacnilk, the Kannada-language entertainer grossed over Rs 1.60 crore on its opening day, a promising start that points towards a potentially successful run at the box office.

Directed by Rohit Padaki, Ekka has struck a chord with audiences across Karnataka, delivering exactly what fans expected from a mass action entertainer. The film also stars Aditya in a pivotal role, and his portrayal of a gritty police officer has been widely praised by both fans and critics.

The action-packed narrative, peppered with raw, high-octane sequences and strong emotional moments, seems to have resonated particularly well with the local audience. On its opening day, the film recorded an impressive 40.20% overall occupancy in the Kannada market. Morning shows began at a modest 29.27%, but footfall steadily grew through the day—afternoon shows hit 38.27%, and evening slots held strong at 35.96%. However, it was the night screenings that truly reflected the film’s draw, boasting a robust 57.28% occupancy.

Yuva Rajkumar, carrying the legacy of the iconic Rajkumar family, has garnered applause for his performance. His charismatic screen presence and intensity in action sequences have stood out in early reviews. The film’s story revolves around Muttu, a small-town youth who arrives in Bengaluru in pursuit of his elusive friend Ramesh. But what begins as a simple search soon descends into chaos, as Muttu is drawn into the city’s criminal underbelly, leading him on a dangerous path that challenges his values and transforms his destiny.
