Bollywood superstars and close friends Salman Khan and Aamir Khan were the first guests on the premiere episode of 'Too Much With Kajol and Twinkle' and they both bared their hearts out.
The two gave an open and illuminating discussion that gave viewers a rare glimpse into their relationships, fatherhood, and personal lives.
Aamir Khan talked about his regrets when he became a parent for the first time that alternated between heartfelt confessions and hilarious moments with Salman
Aamir also spoke about his two divorces when Twinkle said we are living our lives vicariously through you hinting that the Ghajni actor has an active love life even at the age of 60.
To this Aamir said there are two ways to look at it and that they haven't been through what he did in his past marriages.
“There are two ways of looking at it. You all haven't been through such a traumatic break-up like I have been. I was very close to Reena (first wife) and very close to Kiran (second wife). Was is a very wrong word, I still am very close to Reena and Kiran both. Reena and I grew up together. Junaid toh teri god mein pala hai (to Salman). So when you have been together for so long and things dont work out then it's a hit. And you have to recover from that. Mujhe toh chaar saal lag gaye (it took me four years),” Aamir Khan shared, reflecting on his divorces and the time it took him to recover.
Despite facing these personal challenges in life, Aamir Khan emphasised the bond he still shares with his children Junaid, Ira and Azad.
But he also talked about not being a part of his kids' lives when they were growing up.
“It was not that I wasn't there entirely for my kids but I feel that in my head space, I feel that I should have been there more… As a father I did spend time with my kids, It's not like I wasn't there for them," he said.
Salman Khan’s Take: Kids and Work
Salman Khan in between came up with his practical advice. “I think he is talking rubbish. Aadmi kaam nahi karega kya ghar baithey rahega. Ghar bhi toh chalana hai bhai."
To this Aamir added: "I was so involved with my work that my relationship were with the directors of the movies. I would spend a lot of time with Ashutosh, whoever is my director. So if you ask me today what was Junaid's fears or Ira's dreams or what are their insecurities, I would not know because I had not invested that much. But I knew the dreams, desires and insecurities of my directors. So I had connected a lot more with the people I was working with.”
Salman added thoughtfully about the natural closeness children develop which is with their mother.
“He felt bad that he didn't spend time with his kids. Kids usually get closer to their mothers, than their fathers. And they get closer to the mother's family also," said Salman.
Reflecting on Personal Experiences
The conversation also revisited nostalgic moments from their past. Aamir Khan reminisced: “For me when Reena and I got married and Junaid was born it was a magical thing. Really magical.”
Meanwhile, Salman Khan laughed while recalling his own experiences, “I remember we were doing shows at that point of time, so Junaid was just three months old. And for the first 45 days Junaid was with me. Raat ko I used to go and drop him.”
