Farah Khan has never shied away from reinventing herself. Known for her blockbuster directorial ventures like Main Hoon Na and Om Shanti Om, and for choreographing over a hundred iconic songs, Farah has now made her mark in an entirely new space of digital content creation.
In a recent appearance on Serving It Up With Sania, Farah made a candid revelation to Sania Mirza that surprised her fans and the industry alike.
When Sania Mirza asked her to choose between choreography, direction, and content creation, Farah replied with her trademark wit but also with a dose of reality. “No, personally, I have made the most money in content creation. But if you ask me what I want to do, that would be direction. That’s my thing.”
Farah’s directorial journey began with Main Hoon Na (2004), starring Shah Rukh Khan, which became a massive commercial success and established her as a director with strong commercial instincts. She followed it up with Om Shanti Om (2007), another superhit, and Happy New Year (2014), which marked her third collaboration with Shah Rukh Khan and went on to become one of the highest-grossing films of the year.
Yet, despite the success of these films, Farah shared that her earnings from YouTube and digital content have outpaced what she made through years of directing.
Farah’s YouTube vlogs, often co-starring her chef Dilip, offer a slice-of-life look at her world, peppered with celebrity cameos, kitchen banter, and her signature humour. The videos have struck a chord with audiences who enjoy seeing the otherwise glamorous film personality in a casual, home-bound avatar. Dilip, with his dry wit and on-screen chemistry with Farah, has also found his own fan following.
