Mahindra’s new SUV to be called ‘Thar ROXX’

Mahindra & Mahindra Ltd., has announced the name and launch date of the 5-door version of its popular Sports Utility Vehicle (SUV) Thar. The five-door version of the lifestyle SUV will be called the Mahindra Thar Roxx and will be offered in two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations.

The Thar Roxx will be offered with the same set of engines as the standard model, which include a 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and a 2.2-litre diesel engine paired with, either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic transmission. While the price range of this model is not revealed, dealer sources have revealed that the product will be offered from Rs 15.99 lakh onwards.

Veejay Nakra, President, Automotive Sector, M&M Ltd., said, "The ‘Thar ROXX’ with its distinctive design, premium quotient, advanced technology, enhanced performance, sophistication, and safety is ‘THE’ SUV. While retaining the core attributes of the iconic Thar the ‘Thar ROXX’ represents the larger-than-life personality of a rockstar and will disrupt the SUV category.”

The Thar Roxx will be based on the same platform, while also having a similar design albeit with slight changes. Inside, the new Mahindra 5-door Thar will carry several modern features such as a digital instrument cluster, a 10.25-inch infotainment system, along with ADAS Level 2.

"Known for setting new standards in the automotive industry and as the manufacturer of authentic SUVs, Mahindra's latest offering is – ‘THE’ SUV - a vehicle designed and engineered to offer an unmatched blend of sophistication, performance, presence, safety, and technology. The ‘Thar ROXX’ expands the Thar portfolio," the company said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the SUV portfolio will see a slew of launches next month as Tata Motors will launch its first SUV coupe, the Tata Curvv and Citroen will launch the rival of Tata's Curvv to be called as Basalt.

Also, Mahindra & Mahindra said its XUV700's fully-loaded AX7 range now starts at Rs 19.49 lakh, a price cut of over Rs 2 lakh. M&M’s patents cover a range of functions, such as powertrain (ICE & EV), vehicle mechanical systems, electronics, manufacturing processes, electric tractors, and advanced engineering, among others.
