Meta is making big changes after Donald Trump returned to the White House for the second term. CEO Mark Zuckerberg is aligning the company’s policies with the new administration. He says the goal is to support “free expression,” but employees say internal criticism is being silenced.
According to a CNBC report, Zuckerberg met with Trump at the White House in early February. Meta’s spokesperson said they discussed how the company could help America’s tech industry. Meanwhile, Meta has made major policy changes that seem to match Trump’s views.
The company ended its diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) program. It also relaxed content moderation rules, which Trump has opposed. Employees worry that Meta is shifting too far to the right and that their voices are being ignored. The company has also laid off more workers, adding to job insecurity.
Another big move is Meta’s increasing fight with Apple. Zuckerberg is still upset about Apple’s 2021 privacy update, which hurt Meta’s ad business. Now, with Trump in power, he hopes to turn government attention toward Apple instead of Meta. The company has even filed complaints against Apple in Brazil.
Meta’s leadership has also changed. Joel Kaplan, a former official under President George W. Bush, now leads policy decisions. He has long been close to Republicans. This marks a shift from former policy head Nick Clegg, who supported banning Trump from Facebook after the attack Capitol building.
Trump has praised Meta’s new direction. He recently said the company has “come a long way” and called Kaplan “very impressive.”
Meta’s future remains uncertain. Some employees fear job losses, while others worry about the company’s new political stance. As Zuckerberg works to gain favor with Trump, Meta’s role in tech and politics may continue to change.
