Google has officially unveiled Gemini Live, a new voice chat mode for its AI model Gemini. It was introduced alongside the Google Pixel 9 series at the Made by Google event. This new AI feature is Google’s answer to the recently released ChatGPT Advanced Voice Mode. However, it is only available on Android phones for now, with Gemini Advanced paid subscribers.
Google Gemini Live: Key detailsGoogle says Gemini Live can be used for all sorts of conversations, like asking for a suggestion or different ideas. It also supports hands-free mode, where the Gemini AI app will keep running in the background even when the phone is locked. It can even generate images and summarize calls or organize screenshots, all while prioritizing user privacy with on-device processing capabilities.
Gemini Live is available starting today with support for 10 new voices. However, the feature is currently not free and is a part of the Gemini Advanced subscription, which costs $19.99 per month. Initially, the feature is rolling out to Android devices, with iOS support expected in the coming weeks.
With all of these advanced Gemini capabilities, we can safely assume that Google Assistant is the default voice assistant on Google or other Android smartphones. The Gemini AI also provides seamless cross-platform operability, providing a cohesive and consistent experience regardless of the device you're using.
In the coming weeks, Google has also revealed that new Gemini Live extensions will be released for Keep, Tasks, Utilities, and YouTube Music. This will allow users to get tasks done by asking Gemini instead of manually opening the particular app and searching for that particular input.
