'How is this tolerable in India? If this had happened in Europe, can you imagine what the repercussions would be?' IndiGo passenger and Instagram influencer Jayant Shilanjan Mundhra asked. (Image credit: @marketswithjayant/Instagram)

An IndiGo passenger flying from Chennai to Bagdogra has complained that the AC in the flight did not work, leaving him, his one-year-old child, and other passengers sweating profusely midflight.

Taking to his 2.3 lakh followers on Instagram, the passenger, Jayant Shilanjan Mundhra, said that the airline's management must be held accountable.

In the video, passengers around Mundhra are seen sweating and fanning themselves as he explained that the AC in the flight has not been working. "I'm travelling with my one-year-old child and the AC is not working here. You can see people fanning themselves," Mundhra said, adding that although the captain acknowledged the situation, they apparently said that conditions could not be fixed.

"We are flying in bright sun, it's so hot in here and at 15,000 feet in the sky, the air conditioning is not working. So amazing, Indigo," he said.

The influencer also said that while he does not directly blame the staff and the crew, IndiGo's monopoly is the reason the airline has been treating passengers poorly and getting away with it.

"How is this tolerable in India? If this had happened in Europe, can you imagine what the repercussions would be?" Mundhra asked.

On being asked by an Instagram user why he chose to travel by IndiGo, the influencer replied, "Do you even know that on 65 percent of the air routes in India, IndiGo has an absolute monopoly. Nobody else flies there."

IndiGo responded to Mundhra's video and apologised for the discomfort he experienced due to the cabin temperature onboard. "This is certainly not the experience we intend to provide, as our customers’ comfort remains extremely important to us," it stated, adding that attempts were made to connect with him to discuss the matter personally.

"However, we were unable to get through. Do let us know a convenient time to reach you, and we will be glad to connect. Further, please be assured that we have taken cognisance of this matter and have shared your feedback with the concerned team for review and necessary action."
