During its Next Summer 2024 stream, Japanese video game developer Capcom confirmed that there will be a new Resident Evil game. Koshi Nakanishi, game director of Resident Evil 7: Biohazard, will oversee the development of the next Resident Evil title whose title hasn’t been confirmed yet.
Koshi Nakanishi himself confirmed the new Resident Evil game towards the end of the Capcom Next Summer 2024 stream. “We’re making a new Resident Evil”, says Nakanishi. Elaborating a little, he goes on to say that it was really difficult to figure out what to do after Resident Evil 7 but he’s found it.
In Nakanishi’s own words: “But I found it, and to be honest it feels substantial. I can't share any details just yet, but I hope you're excited for the day I can."
Earlier in the Capcom stream, Nakanishi mentioned that when they started out making the Resident Evil games, they were off the track as a brand. While the action element in Resident Evil (RE) games was expanded, they still got negative reviews from fans. Nakanishi says that in the end, a Resident Evil game should be scary and that’s why he put the fear element centre stage with Resident Evil 7 Biohazard. He added that he wanted to make Resident Evil 7 the game that would live up to the RE name.
The most recent mainline game to come out in the Resident Evil franchise is Resident Evil Village. It was released in 2021 and is the 10th major game in the Resident Evil series.
During the Capcom Next Summer 2024 stream, the video game company also revealed that it will release a Dead Rising Deluxe Remaster version on September 19 this year. With Frank West as the protagonist, the zombie game Dead Rising was first released in 2006 and got an HD Remaster in 2016.
