Aam Aadmi Party leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead in broad daylight in Jalandhar on Friday after unidentified assailants on a two wheeler opened fire at him outside a gurdwara in Punjab’s Model Town area.

According to initial information, multiple shots were fired at Oberoi while he was inside his car, with five bullets hitting him. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

Preliminary details indicate that Oberoi was parking his car outside the gurdwara when the attackers arrived on a two wheeler and opened fire.

Police teams reached the spot soon after receiving information about the incident and initiated an investigation.

It was also reported that Oberoi’s wife had earlier contested municipal elections as an AAP candidate but was unsuccessful.

The killing triggered sharp political reactions. Leader of Opposition in the Punjab Legislative Assembly, Partap Singh Bajwa, criticised the state government, alleging a collapse of law and order under Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann.

In a post on X, Bajwa wrote, "Law and order in Punjab has collapsed under @BhagwantMann's watch. The shocking daylight murder of @AAPPunjab leader Lucky Oberoi outside a gurdwara in Jalandhar, exposes the grim reality: if even ruling party leaders aren't safe, what hope remains for ordinary citizens?"

He added, "Punjab today is gripped by fear, gang violence, and administrative paralysis while the AAP government remains busy with PR and excuses. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann must answer: who is responsible for this complete breakdown?"

Bharatiya Janata Party national spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla also criticised the AAP government over the incident.

In a post on X, he wrote, "Once again law and order in complete collapse in Punjab. Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Lucky Oberoi was shot dead outside a gurudwara in Jalandhar's Model Town. AAP is a Paap for Punjab."
