Vinesh Phogat's Olympic disqualification at Paris 2024 continues to make headline as the wrestler, who has now quit the sport and joined politics, is engaged with the Haryana Assembly elections. In a fresh video, which is doing rounds on social media, the grappler has answered a question, which most want an answer to. The question is did Prime Minister Narendra Modi called Vinesh Phogat at Paris?
Vinesh in an interview with Lallantop was asked the same, to which she admitted yes the Prime Minister did call her in Paris but she refused to attend. Explaining the scenario in details, Vinesh claimed that the call didn't come directly but she was informed about it from Indian officials at Paris. She then pointed out that it was more or less a social media gimmick, which is why she refused to talk to the Prime Minister.
“The call had come (from PM) but I refused to speak. The call did not come directly to me but Indian officials who were there informed me that he (PM Modi) wanted to talk. I was ready. They put conditions in front of me that nobody from your team will be there, and two people from our team will be there. One person will shoot the video and the other will facilitate the call and this will be posted on social media. I didn’t want to make fun of my emotions and hard work on social media,” said Vinesh.

The grappler, who has joined Congress, added: “If he really had sympathy towards an athlete then he can speak without recording and I will be grateful. Maybe he knows if I speak to Vinesh she will ask about the last two years. Maybe that’s why I was instructed that there will be no phone from my side because they can edit (video) from their end but I will not edit. I will post the original video. So they denied.”
Vinesh has been giving interviews to several news outlets while campaigning for the election. During those interaction she has been asked about her ordeal in Paris, and in one of those interviews, she made serious allegations against Indian Olympic Association (IOA) president PT Usha. She blamed the former Indian sprinter of doing politics in Paris.
Meanwhile, 2012 London Olympic bronze medallist Yogeshwar Dutt recently launched a brutal attack on Vinesh and called the disqualification the "right call".
"She was disqualified from the Olympic Games, she should have apologised in front of the entire nation, saying that she made mistakes. But instead, she termed it a conspiracy, even blaming the Prime Minister of the country. Everyone knows that the disqualification was the right call. They disqualify athletes even if the weight is more by a gram," Yogeshwar had told India Today last month.
