India spinner Yuzvendra Chahal and actor-choreographer Dhanashree Verma's divorce is quite a burning topic on social media. There have been plenty of speculations around the alimony amount too, which previously was reported to be Rs 60 crore. However, the latest report by Bar and Bench on Thursday confirmed that the spinner will have to pay Rs 4.75 crore as alimony and out of which Rs 2.37 crore has already been settled.
As per the report, the Bombay High Court on Wednesday allowed a plea filed by Chahal and Dhanashree seeking to waive the six-month cooling-off period. Justice Madhav Jamdar, the single judge listening to the plea, also directed the family court to decide the divorce petition by Thursday, considering Chahal's commitment to Indian Premier League franchise Punjab Kings.
"As petitioner 1 (Chahal) is participant of IPL, learned counsel informs that he may not be available from 21st March, the learned judge family court is requested to decide petition by tomorrow," the Court directed.
The Court took a decision after learning that Chahal and estranged wife Dhanashree have now been living separately for over two and a half years and both parties have already agreed on the amount of alimony to be paid.
Chahal and Dhanashree tied the knot in December 2020 and were together till June 2022. They had filed a joint petition for divorce before a family court on February 5. They had requested the family court to waive the cooling-off period, which was denied by the court. The reason behind denying the request was because Chahal had only settled Rs 2.37 crore of the agreed Rs 4.75 crore alimony amount.
