Anshul Kamboj has become the 11th Indian cricketer to make his Test debut at Manchester. He is the first Indian to debut at Old Trafford in 35 years, following the legendary Anil Kumble’s debut in 1990. Kamboj is also the first Indian fast bowler in 51 years to earn his Test cap at this venue, the last Indian pacer being Madan Lal in 1974.
Coincidentally, both Kumble and Kamboj have each taken ten wickets in an innings in first-class cricket: Kumble against Pakistan in 1999 and Kamboj against Kerala in 2024.

The right-arm pacer had achieved the feat during a Ranji Trophy Group C encounter at Rohtak back in November 2024. He had then bowled a total of 30.1 overs in the first innings and conceded just 49 runs at an economy rate of 1.62, which featured 9 maidens. His efforts saw Haryana fold Kerala for 291.
The seamer gave the home team an upper hand in the contest by taking Baba Aparajith's wicket in the opening over. Akshay Chandran and Rohan Kunnummal had a strong 91-run partnership for the second wicket. Chandran and Sachin Baby shared a 57-run partnership for the third wicket.
Even though each of the three reached their respective half-centuries, the Haryana pacer got rid of them all and then got rid of Salman Nizar and Jalaj Saxena to cut Kerala down to 158/5. But thanks to a 74-run partnership between Shoun Roger and Mohammad Azharuddeen for the sixth wicket, the visiting team bounced back nicely.
The emerging pacer made a swift comeback, removing the set batters in quick succession before running through the tail. The clinical effort saw set a new record for the best bowling figures in a single innings in the history of the competition.
After announcing his debut, the official account of BCCI shared an old video of Kamboj running through the Kerala line-up. "Shine on, young lad," read the caption.

Meanwhile, Premangsu Chatterjee of Bengal in 1956–57 and Pradeep Sunderam of Rajasthan in 1985–86 were the two other bowlers who had previously claimed all ten wickets in an innings in Ranji Trophy. After Odisha seamer Debasis Mohanty and leg-spinners Subhash Gupte and Kumble, Kamboj was the sixth Indian player to accomplish this feat in first-class cricket.
