Virat Kohli's return to international cricket has not gone as planned as he would have wanted. After registering an eight-ball duck in the series opener in Perth, things only got worse for India's talismanic batter in the second ODI in Adelaide. This time Kohli was dismissed for a four-ball duck after being trapped LBW by Xavier Bartlett.
Bartlett got the big wicket four balls later after dismissing new ODI skipper Shubman Gill, who managed a run-a-ball nine. Kohli was caught plumb as Bartlett bowled a good length delivery that nipped back and hit him on his pads. Kohli tried to play it across the line, towards the on-side, but failed to make any contact. He then engaged in a brief discussion with Rohit Sharma but decided against the review, which was a right call. Ball tracker suggested it was clear out as the ball was striking the middle stump.

Despite the duck, Kohli still received a standing ovation from fans while returning to the pavilion. Kohli, too, responded to the gesture by raising his gloves but kept his head down as he walked towards the dressing room.
Two back to back ducks for Virat Kohli. Never happens before…— Irfan Pathan (@IrfanPathan) October 23, 2025
Things have not been easy for Kohli, who now plays only one format. Also this instance marks the first time Kohli has been dismissed for duck in successive innings in his illustrious ODI career, which appears to be fading with questions over his international future.
