OpenAI has launched ChatGPT Atlas, a Chromium-based web browser with ChatGPT integrated into the browsing experience. Instead of switching between tabs or copying content into an AI window, Atlas allows the assistant to interact directly with webpages for summarization, task execution, analysis and writing help.

How to download OpenAI Atlas

1. Open any browser on a Mac and go to chatgpt.com/atlas

2. Download the installer file provided for macOS (.dmg format)

3. Open the downloaded file and move the Atlas app to the Applications folder

4. Launch Atlas from Applications and begin the setup process

Supported platforms

• Available now: macOS for Free, Plus, Pro and Go users, and for Business in beta depending on admin settings

• Coming soon: Windows, iOS and Android versions are in development and will roll out in future

Features of OpenAI Atlas

• ChatGPT Sidebar: Allows direct interaction with the webpage currently open, enabling summaries, comparisons and explanations without leaving the tab

• Agent Mode: Available for paid tiers and allows ChatGPT to perform actions in the browser such as filling forms or executing steps with user confirmation

• Browser Memories: Optional and user-controlled, enabling ChatGPT to recall browsing context such as pages or searches for future queries

• In-line Writing Assistance: Allows editing, rewriting or refining of selected text within web input fields

• AI-powered Search: The new tab and address bar work with ChatGPT as the primary search surface alongside traditional web results

• Standard Browser Tools: Supports tabs, bookmarks, history, password and passkey management, and import from other browsers

• Privacy Controls: Browsing data is not used for training unless a user opts in; memories and history can be cleared at any time

1. Follow the download and installation steps above

2. Sign in with an existing ChatGPT account after launching the browser

3. Import bookmarks, passwords and history from your existing browser if prompted

4. Optionally set Atlas as the default browser from its settings

5. Start browsing and use the ChatGPT sidebar or new-tab query field to interact with web content
