Union Home Minister Amit Shah shares his inspiring health journey — losing over 20 kg and reversing diabetes through sleep, hydration, diet, and daily exercise.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah revealed that he lost over 20kgs in the last 4 years and reversed his diabetes with just a few small lifestyle changes.

Speaking at the ‘Healthy Liver–Healthy India’ event organised by the Institute of Liver and Biliary Sciences (ILBS) in New Delhi on World Liver Day, April 19, Amit Shah shared how small, consistent lifestyle changes reshaped his health, energy, and mindset.

"Since May 2020, I have transformed my life and reversed diabetes by improving sleep, hydration, diet, & regular exercise", said Shah.

“The required amount of sleep, water, diet, and regular exercise has given me a lot. Today, I stand before you free from any kind of allopathic medicine and insulin,” he noted.

The Union Minister added that these changes also helped him lose more than 20 kilograms, proving that consistent habits can create lasting results without resorting to extreme diets or shortcuts.

Shah urged young Indians to prioritise health and balance as a lifelong investment. “Dedicate two hours of exercise for your body and six hours of sleep for your brain,” he advised, emphasising the connection between physical wellness and mental clarity.

Shah also highlighted the importance of liver health, calling it “the gateway to a healthy body.”

Key Habits to Take Away from Amit Shah’s Transformation

Prioritise Sleep:

Aim for 6–8 hours of uninterrupted sleep each night. Quality sleep supports hormone balance, blood sugar control, and recovery.

Stay Hydrated:

Begin your day with water and stay hydrated through the day. Adequate hydration helps regulate metabolism and supports liver and kidney function.

Eat Balanced, Home-Cooked Meals:

Focus on whole foods — vegetables, proteins, whole grains, and healthy fats — while reducing processed foods and sugar intake.

Exercise Regularly:

Dedicate at least two hours a day to movement — it could be walking, yoga, strength training, or sports. Consistency matters more than intensity.

Maintain Routine and Discipline:

Set a daily schedule for meals, workouts, and sleep. Stability in habits supports both metabolic and mental health.

Avoid Quick Fixes:

Sustainable weight loss and diabetes reversal are gradual. Focus on lifestyle adjustments, not crash diets or extreme plans.

Care for Your Liver:

Limit alcohol, avoid excessive fatty foods, and include liver-friendly foods like leafy greens, citrus fruits, and turmeric.

Mind-Body Connection:

Good physical health fuels sharper thinking and better decision-making — a point Shah emphasised from experience.

Start Small, Stay Consistent:

Begin with one change — like sleeping an hour earlier or walking 30 minutes daily — and build momentum from there.
