Australia make a mockery of India's stand against Pahalgam attack

As India are set to embark on a full-fledged white-ball series against Australia, starting from October 19, the banters have already begun. In a video shared by Kayo Sports, multiple Australian cricketers were seen mocking India's no-handshake policy, which the Men In Blue followed during the Asia Cup 2025 matches against Pakistan.

Indian players had taken the stance, expressing solidarity with the victims of the heinous Pahalgam terrorist attack, which claimed 26 lives in April this year. The Indian Armed Forces launched Operation Sindoor in retaliation, targeting terror base camps in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir (PoK).

As India met Pakistan three times in the continental showdown, cricket took a backstage and discussions were mostly around the existing geo-political tension between the neighbours, which has only heightened post the attack. While India restricted themselves to no-handshake policy, Pakistan players were seen making inappropriate fighter-aircrafts gestures in reference to the cross border conflicts.

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi, who is also the chief of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the interior minister of Pakistan, also joined the controversy, posting messages in similar context on social media. In the end, India refused to receive the Asia Cup trophy from him and he subsequently took it with him.

The video opens with an anchor saying: "We all know India is on its way. But we've identified one critical weakness." Another anchor then quips: “We know that they're not huge fans of the traditional greeting (handshake), so we can throw them off before we've even bowled a ball.”

This led to reactions from Australian players, both men and women.

Australia white-ball captain Mitchell Marsh tried to enact Travis Head's "finger in the ice cup".

Australia women spinner Sophie Molineux mocked the Indian team as she first raised her hands and then showed middle fingers, which was blurred in the video for obvious reasons.

Pacer Josh Hazlewood reacted: “What about the shooter?”

The video concluded with Marsh, Hazlewood, Grace Harris and the anchors breaking out into laughter.
