India pacer Mohammed Shami received a death threat via email on Sunday and a ransom of Rs 1 crore was demanded from the cricketer. The development was reported by IANS, which stated that an FIR has been registered by Shami's brother Haseeb with the Cyber Crime Police Station of Uttar Pradesh's Amroha district. As per the report, the FIR was lodged on Monday on the orders of the Superintendent of Police (SP), which named Rajput Sindar as the sender of the threat email.

The FIR has been registered under the following sections: Indian Penal Code (BNS), 2023 Section 308(4), Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66d and Information Technology (Amendment) Act, 2008 Section 66e and the police is investigating the matter.

Shami is currently engaged with IPL 2025, where he is playing for the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH). However, the quick has failed to make an impact and have registered just six scalps from nine matches. Such has been his form that SRH dropped him from the must-win encounter against Delhi Capitals, which is currently underway at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad.

India head coach, Gautam Gambhir, had also received a death threat via email last month. “We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated. Gautam Gambhir is already under Delhi Police protection, and we do not comment on specific security arrangements,” DCP (Central) V Harsha Vardhan was quoted as saying by the news agency in Gambhir's case.

A complaint was filed with the Delhi Police after Gambhir received death threats in the aftermath of the ghastly terror attack in South Kashmir's Pahalgam that claimed the lives of 25 tourists and one local, while leaving several injured.

"As we spoke, please find below the "Threat Mails" received on the mail ID of Mr Gautam Gambhir (Ex-MP), Head Coach, Indian Cricket Team. Kindly register the F.I.R accordingly and ensure the safety and security of the family," PS to Gambhir wrote in a mail to Rajender Nagar SHO and DCP, Central as per the report.
