One of the most-awaited fixtures of the Indian Premiere League (IPL) is the match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Both teams have very different IPL histories. While CSK has won the title five times, RCB is yet to secure their maiden IPL title. In their over 30 head-to-head clashes so far, CSK has won on 20 occasions, RCB clinched 10 victories and one match ended in a draw.
CSK vs RCB: Last encounter
The last time these two teams played each other was at Chepauk in April 2023 with the home team CSK securing a win in the league stage.
It was high-scoring affair, as CSK posted a formidable total of 226/6 with Devon Conway and Shivam Dube scoring the bulk of the runs, 83 and 52, respectively. In reply, RCB staged a valiant chase with skipper Faf du Plessis smashing 62 and Glenn Maxwell scoring 76 - but in the end, RCB fell short of the target by 8 runs. The game went down all the way to the last over.
The last time RCB won against CSK was in the league stage in May 2022 at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune. RCB put up 173 runs on the board. In reply, CSK got off to a good start, but Du Plessis's team kept the pressure up and snatched wickets at regular intervals. It was spinner Harshal Patel who broke CSK's back with a three-wicket haul as his side bowled out the opposition 13 runs short of the target.
What CSK vs RCB stats reveal
Though the statistics suggest that the team in yellow has a better record, that has not deterred RCB fans from rooting for their team's win as they hope that "Ee Sala Cup Namde" - this year, the cup will be ours (loosely translated from Kannada).
Also, stirring up the pot are the avid cricket fans who keep bringing up the never ending ‘Dhoni versus Kohli’ debate. Under Mahendra Singh Dhoni's leadership, CSK clinched the IPL trophy five times asserting their supremacy while RCB has been the runners-up on three occasions and is yet to win the cup. In 2024, neither Dhoni nor Kohli will captain their respective IPL side.
IPL 2024 Schedule
The IPL 2024 edition will see 10 teams compete in 74 matches at different venues throughout India. The lineup for the first 17 days of the tournament has been announced by the Board of Control for Cricket in India.
