MS Dhoni is known to be the best in business when it comes to captaincy, donning the wicketkeeping gloves, or finishing games. Dhoni's class runs unparallelly and over the years the former India skipper, who has led the country to three ICC titles, has mostly attracted massive praises from all corners. Dhoni also helped Chennai Super Kings (CSK) bloom as the franchise grabbed five Indian Premier League (IPL) titles under his captaincy.
As a brand new season of the lucrative T20 league is upon us, experts have already started to assemble and discuss one of the most watched competitions of the world. Harbhajan Singh, a former teammate of Dhoni, while doing the same on ESPNCricinfo called the gloveman as the best captain ever in the league and weighed-in on how his smartness has outclassed computers.
“MS Dhoni, you have heard his name; he doesn't care about what the computer is suggesting. He wore his pads and gloves, entered the field, and gave directions on the way - Bhajju paa, yahaan se, Deepak vahaan se. He knows who is going to be his next bowler; he very well knows which, when and where he has to use which card,” said Harbhajan.
“He is probably the best-ever captain who has led the team. A big franchise like CSK is run by just one guy, and that too with so much success, who doesn't need a computer. He outclassed the computers; you can check the teams who are data-driven and then check the ones who don't,” he added.
CSK will open their IPL 2025 campaign against Mumbai Indians (MI) on March 23 (Sunday). The two teams are the most successful outfits in the IPL and have won the title five teams each. With Dhoni no longer at the helm, the onus will be on Ruturaj Gaikwad to guide the team to the sixth title. Gaikwad, however, will find ample support from the senior pro, who many anticipate will be playing his final season before calling it quits.
