Stargazers are in for a treat as six planets align in the night sky, offering a spectacular view. The cosmic event will captivate observers worldwide, with Saturn and Venus coming extremely close after last week’s conjunction.
The planets won’t line up perfectly, but their close proximity in one part of the sky will be awe-inspiring.
Planets Set to Align
The planets joining forces include Venus, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Neptune, and Uranus. These planets, while still millions of kilometres apart, will appear close together in the sky. Earth’s position in its orbit causes this alignment.
NASA explained that Mars reached "opposition" in January. This occurs when Mars is opposite Earth from the Sun, making it appear larger and brighter.
When and Where to See the Alignment
The alignment will be visible starting January 21. The best time to catch the event is about 45 minutes after sunset. The alignment will last for up to three hours, until Venus and Saturn dip below the horizon.
NASA stated that after dark, Venus and Saturn will be visible in the southwest. Jupiter will shine brightly overhead, and Mars will rise in the east.
Visibility in India
Yes, the planetary alignment will be visible across India, weather permitting. Most cities will be able to witness the rare event. Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn are visible to the naked eye. However, you will need a telescope to see Neptune and Uranus, as they are faint.
