Navratri 2025 Day 1 – Pratipada: Maa Shailputri Puja Vidhi, Mantra, Rituals & Significance

Navratri 2025 begins on September 22, Monday, with the worship of Maa Shailputri, the first form of Goddess Durga. On this day, devotees observe rituals, chant mantras, and offer prayers to seek blessings of purity, peace, and prosperity. The Navratri color of the day is White, symbolizing innocence and serenity. Wearing white on this day is believed to invite the divine grace of Maa Durga and bring inner calm.

Who is Maa Shailputri?

After Goddess Sati’s self-immolation, she was reborn as the daughter of Lord Himalaya. In Sanskrit, Shail means mountain, hence she is called Shailputri, the daughter of the mountain. She is also worshipped as Hemavati and Parvati, and is considered the embodiment of strength and purity.

Iconography of Maa Shailputri

Maa Shailputri is depicted riding a bull (Vrisharudha), holding a Trishul (trident) in her right hand and a lotus flower in her left. She radiates divine power and serenity, symbolizing stability and devotion.

Significance of Day 1 Worship

Maa Shailputri governs the Moon, which controls emotions and mental well-being. Worshipping her helps devotees overcome the malefic effects of the Moon. As the first among the nine forms of Goddess Durga, Maa Shailputri marks the beginning of spiritual growth during Navratri. Her blessings bring peace, fortune, and strength to her devotees.

Puja Vidhi (Worship Rituals)

  • Wake up early, take a holy bath, and wear clean white clothes.
  • Install a Kalash (Ghata Sthapana) and invoke Maa Shailputri.
  • Offer white flowers (especially Jasmine), rice, milk, and sweets.

Day 1 of Shardiya Navratri 2025 is dedicated to Maa Shailputri, symbolizing new beginnings and purity. By worshipping her with devotion, one can overcome challenges, attain mental peace, and receive her divine blessings for the nine-day festival ahead.
