“The recent GST reforms for footwear, particularly the rationalisation of tax rates on products priced under ₹2,500, are a welcome step that address a long-standing imbalance in our sector. Dabur India CEO Mohit Malhotra that GST reforms have already benefited the Ayurvedic industry, where Dabur is the world’s largest player. “What we see optically is a rate reduction, but what we don’t see are the procedural simplifications. Earlier, a local Chyawanprash had 5% GST while a branded one had 12–13%. Now, all Ayurvedic medicines fall under 5%. This bridges the gap between unorganised and organised players, and gives a major boost to quality production in India,” he said during a panel discussion at Network 18's Reforms Reloaded event in Delhi.

New GST Rates Rollout Live Updates: 'Win-win for all, would have positive impact on Indian economy', says Devroop Dhar

"The GST reforms that set in from today just ahead of the festive season would benefit both consumers and the industry. More than 375 items would get cheaper, right from items for everyday use to medicines to high value items like cars and bikes. The potential savings for consumers would usher in higher volume of purchase and consumption, resulting in an overall benefit to the economy."

"Also, many consumers had held back purchases of high value items such as cars and bikes, and the next couple of months could see a bumper sale, far higher than previous festive seasons. The industry would also benefit from the exemption that Government has given regarding revision of price stickers on items, thus saving cost and logistical hassle for them. Overall, this is a win-win for all and would have a positive impact on the Indian economy." -- Devroop Dhar, Co-founder and India CEO, Primus Partners
