Every year, Puri Rath Yatra 2025 draws lakhs of devotees from across India and beyond. While the majestic procession of Lord Jagannath is the highlight, the holy city of Puri has much more to offer. Here are six sacred places you must visit during your spiritual journey.

1. Sri Jagannath Temple

The Sri Jagannath Temple is the soul of Puri and the epicentre of the Rath Yatra. Built in the 12th century, this temple is dedicated to Lord Jagannath, an incarnation of Vishnu. With its towering spire, massive kitchen that feeds thousands daily, and unique rituals, the temple is a spiritual powerhouse that welcomes millions of pilgrims every year.

2. Gundicha Temple

Known as the Garden House of Lord Jagannath, this is where the deities rest during the Rath Yatra. The temple gains special importance during the festival as it becomes the temporary residence of the Lord for seven days. It is located around 3 km from the Jagannath Temple and is believed to be the sacred spot where devotees can experience closeness with the divine.

3. Loknath Temple

Situated a short distance from the main town, the Loknath Temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva. What makes it unique is the submerged Shiva Lingam, which is only visible once a year. Devotees believe that Lord Jagannath himself pays a secret visit here before the Rath Yatra begins.

4. Markandeshwar Temple

Close to the Jagannath Temple, this shrine is associated with Sage Markandeya. A holy tank near the temple is considered spiritually purifying. It’s a peaceful place for those seeking blessings and inner calm before witnessing the grandeur of the Rath Yatra.

5. Alarnath Temple

Located in Brahmagiri, around 25 km from Puri, this temple becomes significant when Lord Jagannath rests during the Anavasara period (just before Rath Yatra). Devotees flock here to worship Lord Vishnu in the form of Alarnath when the Jagannath idols are not available for darshan.

6. Narendra Tank

One of the largest sacred tanks in Odisha, Narendra Tank is known for the famous Chandan Yatra, held a few weeks before the Rath Yatra. The beautiful water body surrounded by temples adds a calm charm to the spiritual landscape of Puri.

The Jagannath Yatra 2025 is not just a festival, but a deeply moving spiritual journey. Visiting these sacred places in Puri enhances the experience, offering moments of peace, devotion, and divine connection. Whether you're a first-time pilgrim or a regular visitor, these holy spots are sure to leave a lasting impression on your heart and soul.
