Hanuman Jayanti is celebrated at different times in various parts of India, depending on regional traditions and calendar systems.

In North India, Chaitra Purnima is widely recognised as the primary day to honour Hanuman Jayanti. Devotees offer prayers, chant Hanuman Chalisa, and visit temples in large numbers on this day.

In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, Hanuman Jayanti is observed as a 41-day festival. It begins on Chaitra Purnima and concludes on the 10th day of Krishna Paksha in the Vaishakha month. Devotees in these states take a Deeksha (spiritual vow) for 41 days, culminating on Hanuman Jayanti.

In Tamil Nadu, the festival is known as Hanumath Jayanthi and is celebrated on Margashirsha Amavasya, which usually occurs in December or January according to the Gregorian calendar.

In Karnataka, Hanuman Jayanti is observed on Shukla Paksha Trayodashi during the Margashirsha month. Locally, it is referred to as Hanuman Vratam.

Rituals and Significance

It is traditionally believed that Lord Hanuman was born at sunrise. As such, temples begin spiritual activities and discourses before dawn and continue them beyond sunrise. Devotees often recite Hanuman Chalisa, offer sweets, and decorate Hanuman temples with flowers and flags.

Lord Hanuman, also known as Anjaneya, is worshipped as a symbol of strength, devotion, and selfless service. His unwavering devotion to Lord Rama and Sita is a timeless example of bhakti (devotion) and loyalty.

Hanuman Jayanti is not just a celebration of Hanuman’s birth but also a day to reflect on the values he stood for—courage, discipline, devotion, and humility. Devotees across India mark this festival with great faith, and the celebrations highlight the cultural and spiritual diversity in the worship of Hanuman.
