Woman eating rice with hands in airport shamed, called 'unsanitary'. Viral video

'Thank you thank you, hand eaters. We can all thank you for leaving your saliva around our airports and public spaces... Leave your hand sucking at home," the US woman wrote after sharing the video.

A woman of possibly South Asian descent was secretly filmed and shamed for eating rice with her hands at an airport. The act was caught on camera by X user JusB (@jusbdonthate) who appears to be a US citizen.

"Why this lady sat next to me eating with her damn hands? In a nasty airport," the user captioned the video before calling the practice "unsanitary".

"Thank you thank you, hand eaters. We can all thank you for leaving your saliva around our airports and public spaces. Raising the chances of us having to go back into mask mandates. Leave your hand sucking at home. Share your bowl of rice in peace at home with your family and your pets," she said in a different tweet.

Her rant prompted several X users to call her out for racism.

"If it was an American having fries you wouldn’t bat an eye. It’s not like she’s sharing it with you either it’s her own portion and how she culturally does things and it’s less wasteful in terms of cutlery. You’re the weirdo for filming a random person in an airport," wrote @YORUMlTAKA.

"Did you forget that different cultures exist? if somebody was eating fries with their hands, I highly doubt you’d be secretly videoing them," commented another user Mishti Ali (@heresmishti). "How is eating with hands leaving saliva everywhere? Don't you wash your hands before and after eating food? And they are not spitting either," added a third user Apurv (@fairydust_chad).

Refusing to back down, JusB said, "Culture aside. Is rice really a finger food? Shoving grains into your mouth with saliva at an airport is appalling. At least with a French fry, you don’t have to eat the portion you touched. You wouldn’t believe the number of ppl who don’t wash their hands."

She further went on to share a video that was apparently shot at Rajasthan's popular rat temple where the rodents are worshiped and allowed to live freely and called it "unsanitary".

She was then asked by other X users to "mind her own business".

"It's her mouth, her hands. Stop interfering and mind your business. Your handle name and your actions don't match," wrote JyotiKarma (@JyotiKarma7), while another user Dr Tanmay Motiwala (@Least_ordinary) further explained why anyone eating their food with their hands shouldn't be anybody else's problem.

"It's 2024 and it seems some people still need education to seek consent before filming anyone. Eating with clean hands should not be a problem if she is not troubling you. So it would be better if you just focus on your damn job. She didn't force you to eat or share," he wrote. "Learn to respect the cultural diversity. Some cultures including mine promote it. We wash our hands with soap before and after having meals. We greet with a namaste (no hand contact)."
