The national capital of Delhi is expected to experience a strong cold wave on January 13 and a mild cold wave on January 14 according to a forecast released by the Indian Metrological Department (IMD) on Saturday.
Many places in the area had no visibility at all due to the dense fog that covered the area. With an orange alert lasting into the weekend, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a red alert for Delhi, Punjab, and Haryana. Remarkably, up until Sunday, the IMD had issued an orange alert for severe cold wave conditions throughout North India.
There is heavy to extremely heavy fog in the northern states of Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Jammu and Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and Rajasthan, which is causing delays for air and train travel. Many locations are experiencing frigid to extremely frigid days as a result of the temperature drop.
The temperature in Delhi, the nation's capital, was as low as 10°C on Saturday morning. According to IMD predictions, Saturday, January 13th, will have a maximum temperature of 19 degrees Celsius and a minimum temperature of 5 degrees.
It is predicted that on January 13 and 14, there will be rain or snow in Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit, Baltistan, Muzaffarabad, and Himachal Pradesh in w. On January 16 and 17, precipitation is also possible in Uttarakhand.
Central and East India:
Expect a 2-3°C drop in temperature over the next two days in Central and East India. A moderate drop in temperature is being felt throughout the region, but isolated pockets of Chandigarh, Delhi, and northwest Rajasthan are still experiencing cold day conditions.
The Western Disturbance, which has been activated since January 16, is the main cause of the anticipated cold weather for Madhya Pradesh over the next week. The days will stay cold during this period, even though there won't be any rain or hailstorms predicted. Unlike the bitterly cold conditions in the north, rainfall is not a major concern in this country. The weather is also still generally stable.
West India:
West India is experiencing relatively milder weather compared to the north. No severe cold wave conditions have been reported, and the temperatures remain within normal ranges. While Rajasthan is anticipated to face a cold wave, the rest of the western states are not experiencing extreme weather conditions.
South India:
In South India, the Northeast Monsoon is gradually coming to an end. Conditions are becoming favourable for the cessation of rains over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Kerala, Mahe, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, and South Interior Karnataka around January 15, 2024. Rainfall is expected over Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and Lakshadweep in the next 24 hours, followed by dry weather. Heavy rainfall is likely over south Tamil Nadu today.
