A man in Hardoi, Uttar Pradesh, recently sought police intervention over an unusual complaint: the disappearance of 250 grams of potatoes from his home. Vijay Verma, a resident of Mannapurwa, placed the call to UP-112, the state’s emergency helpline, claiming that the prepared potatoes he had set aside for cooking had gone missing, prompting him to request a formal investigation.
When police officers arrived, Verma remained firm, urging them to investigate the missing potatoes, according to Times of India. Officers documented the interaction with a brief five-second video in which Verma is seen emphasising, “This is what needs to be investigated.” When asked if he had been drinking, Verma admitted to having a drink after a day’s work, explaining, “Yes, I work hard all day and have a small drink in the evening. But this isn’t about alcohol; it’s about the missing potatoes."

The video of Verma’s interaction quickly went viral on social media, drawing varied reactions. Some users commended the police for their responsiveness, while others highlighted the inappropriate use of emergency services for a trivial issue. Several critics pointed out that such calls put additional strain on emergency resources, detracting from genuine cases in need of assistance.
Meanwhile, in an incident from Singanapalle village in Andhra Pradesh, a heavily intoxicated truck driver had a close encounter with a large python. After a long day, the driver reportedly drank excessively, eventually passing out on a platform near the road. While he lay there, a python emerged from nearby woods and coiled around his neck. Unaware of the danger in his inebriated state, the driver remained motionless as the snake draped over him. Alarmed locals managed to intervene in time, safely freeing the man from the python's hold.
