A video of a child riding on a scooter while standing on the footrest has surfaced online and sparked a conversation about road safety. The clip, shared by a page called Whitefield Rising, was captured in Bengaluru.
The now-viral video shared on X showed the boy standing on the footrest of the two-wheeler. A woman, presumably his mother, was holding him while riding pillion. The child had no other support apart from the woman.
“Don't do this. One small stone or a minor dip in the road is enough to cause irreversible harm that you will not want to face. And if the child wants a thrill ride, be the parent you are, and need to be,” read the caption of the post.
“PS: While we share this clip for awareness, we do not condone calling people or parents names (as in the text of this video).”

The clip, since being shared online, has amassed over 50,000 views. It also made its way to Instagram. Social media users criticised the adults and termed their behaviour callous and dangerous.
“This is very dangerous. The side foot rest on scooters is not strong enough to take the weight,” one user wrote.
Another user commented, “And to top it, they are not wearing helmet, one small fall can be fatal, God bless!”
“Knowing how to produce and knowing how to value are two different things,” a third user remarked.
“We have a huge population and these people are doing their bit to try and reduce it. Excellent initiative,” a fourth added sarcastically.
Meanwhile, one person died and at least 10 others were injured after a Hyderabad man caused a string of accidents under the influence of alcohol. Patarla Kranti Kumar, a 30-year-old software engineer, caused six accidents in a span of six minutes in Hyderabad’s IT corridor on Sunday night, according to a report in The Hindu.
Kumar, who was under the influence of alcohol, rammed his Volkswagen Polo into a car, a pedestrian and three bikes while driving.
