One person died and at least 10 others were injured after a Hyderabad man caused several accidents under the influence of alcohol. Patarla Kranti Kumar, a 30-year-old software engineer, caused six accidents in a span of six minutes in Hyderabad’s IT corridor on Sunday night, The Hindu reported.

Kumar crashed his Volkswagen Polo into a car, a pedestrian and three bikes while driving under the influence of alcohol. He has been arrested by the police and charged under several sections of the IPC, including sections 304 Part II (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).

“The first accident occurred at 12.45 a.m. near Mindspace and the last one occurred at 12.51 a.m. The 30-year-old software employee, under the influence of alcohol, was travelling from Jubilee Hills to Nizampet via Madhapur. On his way from Mindspace to Mehdipatnam road in his Volkswagen Polo, he crashed into three bikes, a car, an auto and a pedestrian,” inspector at Raidurgam Police Ch Venkanna said.

A Times of India report revealed that before getting behind the wheel, Kumar had spent four hours drinking at Social, a bar near Mindspace. After consuming alcohol till 10 pm, he tried to leave the bar but was prevented from doing so by the staff, who noticed his intoxication.

The staff urged Kumar to take a cab instead of driving. However, the Hyderabad techie convinced them he was sober and stayed back at Social until it closed for the day. While the staff was busy with closing operations, he managed to slip away unnoticed and started driving.
