A Hyderabad man was arrested after he stole a Porsche belonging to the son-in-law of a prominent Telugu film producer and took it for a spin. According to a report in Telangana Today, Sai Kiran, 30, stole the luxury car from the parking lot of an upscale hotel in the city on Friday morning.
It all started when produce Dil Raju’s son-in-law, Archith Reddy, reached the hotel on Friday morning to work out at his gym. He parked the red-coloured Porsche in the hotel and went to his gym. When he returned, Reddy realised his car, worth Rs 2 crore, had gone missing.
A security guard in the vicinity contacted the police who immediately reached the spot and started investigating. According to Times of India, police checked nearby signals and found the Porsche was moving in different areas of Madhpur and Jubilee Hills. Using CCTV footage, cops managed to track down the car and brought Kiran into custody.
“At the time of stealing the Porsche in the hotel, Kiran came on his bike and parked it close to the Porsche. He saw that the car key was inside the vehicle and the door was unlocked. He took advantage of this and took away the car,” said detective inspector S Veera Shekar of Jubilee Hills.
When questioned at the police station, Kiran tried misleading the cops by claiming he had connections in high places and knew Bollywood stars as well as powerful politicians. He even claimed that minister KT Rama Rao had instructed him to steal the car.
However, police learned that he worked as a techie and earned a fat pay cheque, but had developed a fascination with high-end cars. In fact, he had been involved in a similar theft in the past as well.
Jubilee Hills Inspector, P Ravindra Prasad, told Deccan Chronicle, “The accused identified as Mallela Sai Kiran, from Mansurabad area. Kiran had claimed that Minister KT Rama Rao instructed him to steal the car. However, upon contacting Sai Kiran's family members, they made it clear that Sai Kiran is mentally ill and is currently undergoing treatment at the Brain Life Foundation.”
