A woman who earns her living by selling flowers outside a temple was forced to shell out thousands for an iPhone after her son went on a hunger strike for three days demanding the expensive phone. While it is not immediately clear where the incident happened, in a video doing rounds on the internet the woman said that she decided to part with her life savings for her son's happiness.
"I sell flowers outside a temple and I gave him the money to buy the phone because he did not eat anything for three days," the woman said in the video as the son stood smiling by her side holding a fat wad of cash. "Only after I gave him all the money is he finally happy."
The son said that he follows the shop representative's account on Instagram and that's why he decided to buy the phone from his store.
This video is saddening. This boy's mother sells flowers outside a temple. He insisted on buying an iPhone, and went on a hunger strike for 3 days. In the end, the mother gave up and bought him an iPhone with her hard-earned money. Her expression says a lot. pic.twitter.com/7eAhqcU3pD— Abhishek (@AbhishekSay) August 18, 2024
The video, however, does not clarify which iPhone they bought or how much it cost them. The clip has been gaining traction on social media with several users found it "heartbreaking" how "commodity festish" has been affecting youngsters and their families.

His mother sells flowers outside a temple, the boy coaxed her to buy an iPhone so that he can make reels! This is what probably (Karl) Marx talked about is the 'commodity fetish'," commented Deepanshu Singh (@deepanshuS27).
Another X user Incognito (@Incognito_qfs) wrote, "Too much love will always destroy children. Parents should know where to draw the line. This is harsh but no parent deserves children like him." User Puneet Dhiman (@puneetdheman) added, "Sadly, it's not just one story. Many sons are buying iPhones on their parents' account, with parents paying the EMI from their wages. Heartbreaking."
