In a shocking development in New York, a number of women have reported accounts of being randomly punched by a stranger while walking in the city, including two daylight attacks reported to the police this week, New York Post reported.
The affected women have been taking to TikTok to share their alarming ordeals. Halley Kate, a TikToker with over a million followers, shared her horror after she was attacked and it made her fall to the ground and black out. “You guys, I was literally just walking, and a man came up and punched me in the face,” she said on Monday while in tears. “Oh my God, it was so bad, I can’t even talk.” The attack on her is being investigated by the New York Police Department (NYPD).
She also claimed that she called the police and was icing a large “devil horn” bump on her head. Following this, a woman named Mikayla Toninato tagged Kate in a post six hours later and said that she suffered from something similar.
“I just got punched in the face, walking home,” Toninato claimed. “I was literally like leaving class, I turned the corner and I was looking down and I was looking at my phone, and like texting, and then, out of nowhere, this man just came up and hit me in the face,” she said in a video on TikTok.
Toninato also provided the location of the attack that was somewhere in Manhattan. Previously a woman named Oliva Brand had shared a similar account on March 17. “I literally got punched in the head on the sidewalk. He goes, ‘Sorry,’ and then punches me — in the head,” she said.
Meanwhile, the NYPD confirmed the attacks on Kate and Brand, saying that a 23-year-old woman was assaulted on West 16th Street and 7th Avenue at 10:20 am Monday. She was later treated for injuries to the left side of her face at a medical facility.
On March 17, a 25-year-old woman was walking her dog before noon at Kenmare and Mulberry streets when an “unknown individual punched her in the head,” officials said about Brand's video. It was unclear whether the incidents were related, police said, according to New York Post.
The outlet further mentioned a "knockout game", where young people encourage each other to randomly sucker-punch strangers.
