Oreo, a popular cookie brand that was introduced way back in 1912, is under consumers’ ire. According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, several Oreo fans have claimed that the biscuit now has lesser cream. The creme-to-cookie ratio is quietly shrinking.
US resident Shane Ransonet said that he and his wife realised the cream filling was downsized after recently buying a packet of Oreo. They compared it with the Double Stuff Oreo, which has more filling, but found the original cookie in it. "Here we go, that's the regular Oreo," Ransonet told his wife, as per the Journal.
"It's a sign of the times. This is the way of the world now," Beverly Cooper, 60, said after realising that Double Stuff Oreo has less filling comparatively.
A page called r/shrinkflation on Reddit featured Oreo fans’ woes. A user shared a video of the cookie sandwich and split one in half showing a thin layer of cream. "Oreos have way less cream now?" they questioned.

“Even the double stuffed ones are a disappointment nowadays tbh. Bare minimum amount of filling to be considered a good cookie,” another user commented.
A third user wrote, “Yes, less cream. The company should be fined for false advertising. The package photo no longer bears any resemblance to the product inside.”
“Like every other company. They took advantage and raised their profit margin by giving less and charging more,” another user remarked.
Meanwhile, Mondelez, the US-based maker of Oreo cookies has tried a number of strategies to overcome the rising costs of sugar and cocoa, such as offering lesser discounts or shrinking package sizes, as per the Journal. However, the company denied downsizing on the cream filling.
