A Mumbai-based lawyer and legal content creator has shared a video revealing some of the most absurd reasons why couples have filed for a divorce. Tanya Appachu Kaul’s video on bizarre divorce reasons is viral on Instagram with 1.6 million views – and counting.

In her clip, the former PwC assistant manager revealed that among the most absurd reasons for filing a divorce petition was a husband’s contention that his wife dressed in a “vulgar” manner during their honeymoon.

In another case, a woman had an issue with her husband because he “gives too much love and attention and doesn’t fight at all.” Kaul was likely referring to the 2020 case in which an Uttar Pradesh woman sought a divorce from her husband saying he loved her too much and in 18 months of their marriage, they had never had a fight.

The Insta-famous lawyer also gave other examples – like that of a woman who was upset about her husband preparing for UPSC and not giving her enough time. This particular divorce case came to light last year in Bhopal, according to an India Today report.

Several of the divorce petitions cited by Kaul were filed by men over perceived shortcomings in their wife – one was upset that his wife refused to touch his feet, while another said his wife could not cook and he had to leave the house in the morning without breakfast.

Kaul’s video has gone viral with 1.6 million views and hundreds of comments.

“People want a wedding, not a marriage these days,” wrote one commenter. “For those looking for excuses, even trivial issues can be a trigger,” said another.

In other news, the Supreme Court recently rejected an 89-year-old man’s plea to divorce his 82-year-old wife. “In our opinion, one should not be oblivious to the fact that the institution of marriage occupies an important place and plays an important role in society. Despite the increasing trend of filing divorce proceedings in the courts of law, the institution of marriage is still considered to be a pious, spiritual, and invaluable emotional life-net between the husband and the wife in Indian society,” the bench said.
