Google techie in Hyderabad exhausted after taking over 15 45-minute interviews: 'I'd rather code'

A Google techie based in Hyderabad has shared that after getting exhausted conducting interviews on behalf of the tech giant, she realized that taking interviews was more tiring than giving them. Anu Sharma, 22, told Moneycontrol that in the last couple of months, she has interviewed more than 15 candidates as part of her extra community contribution. These job interviews last for about 45 minutes to one hour each and are conducted outside her working hours.

"After taking more than 15 job interviews at Google, I've learned taking interviews is more exhausting than giving interviews," Sharma said. She added that she has been conducting two to three interviews every week and has conducted around 20 of them during her tenure at the tech giant. "While interviewing at least you're coding and solving something. While taking an interview, you need to sit and listen intensively.... I'd rather code."

Answering a question about the average duration of each interview, she said it takes "45 minutes, but it extends like 5-10 minutes". Sharma added that another challenge of conducting interviews is "actively solving the problem along with the interviewee".

As her post began to grab eyeballs -- it had received more than 40,000 views -- Sharma soon began to get flooded with requests from jobseekers and curious onlookers on what kind of questions Google asks during job interviews.

An X user commented, "Please upload the interview questions." Sharma replied, "I can't."

It didn't seem to deter others from trying.

"At least can you tell from what are all the topics the questions were asked commonly?" asked another user, while a third added, "I am in my 2nd year of my college doing my BSc in computer science. Can you please tell me what I should study to get an internship at Google in my third year and a job after graduation as a software engineer?"
