While most of the people were looking forward to the Union Budget towards the beginning of the week and the rest calculating increased taxes towards the end of it, Padmaavat silently made some money at the box office.

Finally, there was no drama reported around the film for one whole week and Padmaavat lured the audience to the theatres and did the box office some good.

Though according to Boxofficeindia, Padmaavat saw the first crack in its collections on Thursday as it collected only Rs 10.25 crore but still the film has done excellent business over its first extended week of Rs 159.50 crore net. The film is a now an official entrant in the 'super hit' club even though it has lost around 27 percent over the eight days due to exhibitors in some states refusing to screen the film

The film could have had collections of at least Rs 200 crore in its extended first week if it was played across the country. There was no major competition this week and Padmaavat in all likelihood would dominate the box office this weekend too.

As reported earlier by Moneycontrol the film recorded a huge extended weekend of Rs 110 crore of net earnings. This included four days post release, and paid previews. This was achieved despite 25% of the market missing the shows. The real value of this business was around Rs 145 crore net, if one applies the territory figures which would have come if it exhibited all over.

Monday collections were Rs 14.25 crore approximately followed by Tuesday at around Rs 13.25 crore, Wednesday doing close to Rs 12 crore and Thursday bringing in about Rs 10.25 crore.

Outside home turfs too Padmaavat seems to have made a pretty fortune for itself with collections from international markets being to the tune of Rs 162.49 crore.

So while Padmaavat made some money and still looks at some more till Padman takes over next week, India Inc got busy with the Union Budget. Albeit, the Budget did not have any mention of anything that directly affects the media and entertainment industry, it has sent out a positive sentiment in the market, which is expected to boost consumption and, hence, advertising. The push to digital economy will also help the industry, suggested experts.
