Sri Lanka remands 6 TN fishermen to judicial custody

A Sri Lankan court on Saturday remanded to judicial custody six local fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of smuggling ganja.

A Sri Lankan court on Saturday remanded to judicial custody six local fishermen arrested by the Sri Lankan Navy on charges of ganja smuggling on March 25, officials said. "They have been lodged at the Jaffna prison," Pamban Fishermen Organisation president U Arulanandam said. The six were allegedly loading 110 kg of ganja in a country boat near Katchatheevu to smuggle it to Sri Lanka when Lankan naval personnel arrested them, he said. They were taken to Nedundeevu and produced before the Oorkavalthurai court which remanded them to judicial custody, he added.
