An 18-year-old in China has reportedly undergone more than a hundred cosmetic surgeries in order to look like her favourite actress. According to South China Morning Post (SCMP), Zhou Chuna started getting plastic surgeries when she was just 13. Over the course of five years, Zhou spent more than 4 million yuan of her parents’ money on the plastic surgeries – that is approximately Rs 4.6 crore.
Zhou undertook this reckless and expensive spree of surgeries with the aim of looking more like her favourite actress, Esther Yu, and pursuing a career in entertainment.
Since childhood, the Chinese teenager had been under-confident about her appearance – often being compared unfavourably to her ‘prettier’ mother. When she joined an international school in Shanghai, these feelings of inadequacy grew.
Zhou’s mother allowed her to go under the knife for the first time when she was just 13-years-old – she got a double eyelid procedure. The procedure soon led to other surgeries – she even dropped out of school to keep getting plastic surgeries.
“I’ve had almost all the plastic surgeries you can think of, among them rhinoplasty and bone shaving,” Zhou said. The 18-year-old has had 10 eyelid procedures, nose jobs and bone shaving, among other things. She says bone shaving is the most painful of these.
“My old friends do not recognise me now,” the Chinese teen said.
Although she allowed her daughter to go under the knife at 13, Zhou’s mother has since stopped supporting her obsession. Her father disapproves of her new look, and her doctors have warned her against undergoing more procedures.
“No more plastic surgery can be conducted on Zhou, otherwise her face will be ruined. Further surgery would cause a lot of side-effects, including muscle twitching, facial nerve failure, and brain damage due to the overuse of anaesthetic,” said Lin Yonggang, a doctor at a Shanghai-based private medical cosmetic hospital.
